The Easy Solution to New US Consumer Product Safety Commisson Requirements
Don't change your product, CHANGE YOUR PACKAGE
Effective October 25, 2002, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission requires child-resistant (CR) packaging of hazardous household substances in appropriate cases. These rules require Child Resistant packaging for certain low-viscosity hydrocarbon products. This requirement is intended to protect children under five years of age from serious injury associated with aspiration of hydrocarbon products.
The requirement applies to certain prepackaged nonemulsion-type products, including drugs and cosmetics, that contain ten (10) percent or more hydrocarbons by wieght and have a viscosity of less than one hundred (100) Saybolt Universal Seconds (SUS) at 100° F (covered products). For more detailed information on the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the rules for Child-Resistant packaging of household products containing hydrocarbons, please visit www.cpsc.gov.
